In celebration of the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, I wanted to talk about what I remember from the time. Honestly, I was pretty young (10 years old), but still have a very vivid image in my head of Leonard Bernstein conducting a multi-country orchestra in possibly one of the most moving performances of Beethoven’s 9th symphony… ever. I still remember Dad telling me that word “Joy” was modified to “Freedom” in honor of what was definitely one of the most important events of the 20th century.
